SANDBLAST

The school throws a party every semester right after midterms on Grand Anse Beach. Everyone has been talking it up since the moment I arrived and I have been SO excited to check it out. Let me tell you... it did not disappoint!

Wristbands were about $10US which got you in and out, plus unlimited beer, soda, smoothies and Monster. I know right? What a steal! Being that is was located on the beach, there were your typical beach activities - volleyball, jet skis, catamaran, tubing, banana boating, beer pong, some locals walking around selling things and offering to braid your hair, etc. They had a huge stage set up with a DJ and hosted a Hot Body Contest, a Gangnum Dance Off... you know... the usual. This is my favorite video. I like how the group in front of me voted for every. single. guy. It makes me chuckle. Oh, and number one won. I apologize for having to post the links to my videos instead of including them directly in my blog. Blogspot and were having a bit of a disagreement this morning and this was the compromise we both decided on.

For those of you unfamiliar with Gangnam style, I've included this video, here, of the SGU talent show last week. SO FUNNY. This dance is all the rage in the Caribbean right now. The new Macarena.

The beach was PACKED.

I FINALLY got to play volleyball! SOOOO fun!

Some of the water festivities.

Beautiful O. Those are the cups they gave us that I thought were just swell. They changed color when you put your bevy in it and had a little lanyard on them so you could wear them around your neck!

The stage.

This was gross. It was a kiddie pool filled up in front of the stage that people were hanging out in to keep cool. It was originally dyed green. Rumor has it, someone threw up in it. Ew.

WATER SLIDE!!!!

Some of my favs!

Most of us. :) But where the H is Val?
Def my SGU bestie. <3
love me some OOOOOOOOOO

VAAALLLLEEERRRRIIIIEEEEEEE! Love her stupid amounts.
One of the other items they offered, free of charge, were fresh coconuts making it this week's fruit-of-the-week! According to the Almighty Wiki, Coconuts are actually a grupe not a nut and "coco" means "grinning face" because of the three holes at the top of the fruit that resemble a smiley face. Neat!

Watch the dude with the machete cut the top off the coconut here! I'm shocked he doesn't chop his hand off!

Mikey and Sean showed O and me how to drink the water and make the skin into a spoon so you can scoop out the jelly!
I'll be honest, I wasn't a fan. Sean and Mikey called the stuff inside jelly, but the one we were eating was hard, kind of like the consistency of an apple. It wasn't sweet like I had expected; in fact, it didn't have much taste at all. The water was good, though. Supposedly rich with antioxidants or something. Also, you can use the shells in your garden because they are fibrous and make it difficult for weeds to grow. Plus, they hold lots of moisture!

Anyway, I have a VERY long day of studying to catch up on since yesterday was pretty much a wash. But I am SOOO looking forward to Sandblast next year!

Also, Dinger will be here in THREE DAYS! EEK!!
